PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS.

I went along to the Domain on Thursday afternoon expecting to see some of the finals in the annual sports of the Auckland Primary Schools' Association. I was surprised to learn that practically all the athletic events had been completed. It would appear that the finals were decided before lunch, because last year they had been put on in the late afternoon. It seems strange that with many able men controlling the meeting some better arrangement was not made in the interests of parents. Would it not :be better in future carnivals to eliminate heats in the overhead ball events ? With twenty-five teams in the junior and thirty-three in the senior, two remarkably fine contests would have been witnessed on Thursday. Instead of that there.were nine "parades" (three heats and final in junior four heats and final in senior). These particular events occupied more time in the afternoon than it took before lunch to run off the finals of nineteen races —eleven boys' and eight girls' finals were decided between 11.30 a.m. and 12.24 p.m. When other afternoon patrons learn through the newspapers that a, boy under fifteen ran two separate 100 yards in 11 2-5s and II 3-5s within the space of six minutes they may be as disappointed as A PUZZLED PARENT.
