BOROUGH ECONOMIES.

INQUIRIES AT WHANGAREI,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, this day.

The Whangarei Borough Council recently set up committees to investigate the workings of various departments, and recommend economies. The reports submitted to last evening's meeting, however, showed that very little alteration could be made. It was pointed out by the committee in connection with the library that while the number of subscribers and the library revenue had remained the same during the past three vears, the salaries had increased from £291 in 1928 to £355 in 1931.
