EMINENT SURGEON.
VISITOR TO AUCKLAND,
REPRESENTING THE B.M.A.
An arrival by the Aorangi from Sydney this morning was Mr. C. H. Fagge, F.R.C.S., senior surgeon at Guy's HO3- ' pital, and vice-president of the British Medical Association. He has come to New Zealand to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association. During his visit to Australia he acted as the nominee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, to represent it at the Surgical Congress in Australia. Mr. Fagge, who is accompanied by Mrs. Fagge, was met on the Aorangi this morning by Mr. Casement Aickin, president of the British Medical Asso- . ciation of New Zealand, and .Sir Carrick Robertson and Dr. Bardie Neil, representing the executive. The visitor said that he would remain in New Zealand •until March 24, and then leave for London by the Rangitiki. He hoped to go to Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin in connection with the British Empire Cancer Campaign movement, and would address meetings at Auckland and Wellington. His principal object in visiting Dunedin would be to look over the Otago Medical School. Mr. Fagge brought the mace presented by the English branch of the B.M.A. to the Royal College of Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand. He said that it was a handsome article 3 feet 10J inches in height, and contained 190 ounces of silver. It was used when the association was in conference or in session, and, similarly to the Parliamentary mace, it was always carried in front of the president. Speaking generally of the objects of the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr. Fagge said that it was out to improve the methods and ethics of its members in New Zealand and Australia, as well as to give enlightenment of the aims and associations it stood- for.
