LOCAL BODIES.
ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Onehunga Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, presiding.
Relief Work.—A deputation representing relief workers and ex-servicemen waited upon the council and asked for full time under Scheme 5. They stated that an undercurrent of dissatisfaction was permeating the district, and the council should endeavour to check it. The Mayor said the council had always done its best with the means at its disposal. He advised the deputation to interview the local postmaster. Concrete Footpaths.—A list of footpaths to be paved with concrete was approved, and work to the value of £800 authorised as a first instalment. Proposed Reclamation. —Reporting on their search of the title of the proposed reclamation of 85 acres between Waikaraka Cemetery and Mangere Bridge, the borough solicitor advised that the council had the right to call for a title for 75 acres at any time after a proper land transfer plan had been deposited. The council will act on the solicitor's advice. Tenders.—Eleven tenders were received for the supply and delivery of metal chips. These ranged from 10/ to 7/6 per foot. The lowest tender, that of Messrs. Ferguson and Kew, was accepted. Technical College.—Mr. S. Yella was appointed to represent the council as a delegate to appoint a representative of local bodies on the Seddon Memorial Technical College, in place of Mr. W. N. Mcintosh, who has resigned. State Art Unions. —The council declined to support a resolution submitted by the Masterton Unemployment Committee requesting the Government to inaugurate immediately State art unions to raise funds for the relief of unemployment and for charitable aid. Humane Killer.—The S.P.C.A. asked for the council's opinion on a proposal that the police of Onehunga be supplied with a humane killer for injured dogs. The council is willing that the society should supply the instrument to the police if it so desires.
MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mount -Eden Borough Council mat last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. McNab, presiding. An application by Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, for permission to screen pictures on Good Friday evening was declined. The Walters Road Temperance and AntiSmoking Committee complained that the cigarette selling machine at Walters Road, was open day and night. It wna decided to refer the complaint to ths Labour Department. It was decided to request the polica to take action against motorists parking outside theatres within the bovoiighA recommendation that the Mayor and Mr. W. H. Nagle should cWI with the dispute with the Mount Roskill Road Board in connection -witi a watdr supply account was adoptod. On the motion of Mr. Nagle it was decided that the four committees of the council should estimate their requirements for the ensuing year and return their reports within six weeks, the Mayfr and chairmen then to confer ani prepare e§timates for submission to the full council.
