DRAWBACKS AS AIRPORI
MANGERE'S CLAIMS ADVANCED
Several grounds of objection to tha Pollen Island airport scheme were stated at a meeting of the Papatoetoe Welfare League on Thursday evening, and it was decided to urge the local bodies in th* southern suburbs of Auckland to unite in advocating the selection of an airnort site near Mangere Crossing.
One of the main objections raised was that Pollen Island, being reclaimed land would be unsuitable for commercial a via' tion, in view of the growing tendency for aeroplanes to carry greater weiehf It was stated that Messrs. Another point raised was the difficult of linking Pollen Island up with the ran and road transport system from Auckland to the South without involving con" siderable additional cost.
