South Africa, ended today in a win for Australia by 10 wickets. When stumps were drawn yesterday Australia had made 513 in their first innings, and the visitors 308 in their first and 12-1 for two wickets in their second, Mitchell (54) and Taylor (11) ffeing the not out men. When play was resumed Taylor and Mitchell were the mainstays of their side. Taylor played dashing cricket, hitting eight fours and one six. There was a debacle after Taylor's departure. O'Reilly and Grimmett predominated in the attack. Mitchell indulged in a solid stonewall. He only scored two in 93 minutes. His total of Do included five fours. The side's total score was 274. Grimmett was again deceptive. In.his last nine overs he bowled four maidens, and only nine runs were scored off him for six wickets. Requiring 70 runs to win, the Australians commenced their second innings with Ponsford and Woodfull, who immediately collared the bowling. The fielding of the South Africans was loose, and- the requisite runs were forthcoming in 45 minutes. Woodfull hit four foura and Ponsford three. Scores— SOUTH AFRICA. CRAWFORD REDEEMS HIMSELF. PERTH, February 2. The second Test tennis contest against Japan was won by Australia to-day by seven rubbers to five. To-day's results are: —Satoh beat Hopman, 7 —5, 6 —2; Crawford beat Harada, 6—o, 6—o; Dunlop beat Nunoi, 6 —4, 7 —5; Crawford and Hopman beat Harada and S art oh, 7—5, 6—3. .
