GRETNA'S SMITH.
VALUE OF MARRIAGE TRADE. LONDON, January 15. The flourishing business done at the famous blacksmith's shop at Gretna Green caused the Dumfrieshire committee to increase the valuation from £3S to £500. Blacksmith Fennison appealed to the Court, which further increased the valuation to £705. Evidence showed that the revenue for 1931 from admissions and the sale of souvenirs was £3000. Weddings over the anvil averaged 300 annually. Fennison said he asked a fee of £1, and usually received 7/0, but sometimes got nothing.
