COSTLY TAXI RIDE.
EARL'S SON'S HASTY TONGUE. LONDON, January 15. The Hon. Edward Frederick Ward, a son of the Earl of Dudley, was lined at the Westminster Police Court for failing to pay a 1/3 cab fare, and for using obscene language. When the case was first called, the defendant did ' not appear. A warrant was issued for his arrest, but was subsequently withdrawn when he apologised, saying that he had not intended contempt of Court. His counsel said lie should have known better, but he had thought that if lie wrote to the Court pleading guilty and expressing his willingness to pay, that would be sufficient. . Evidence revealed that the cabman told Ward that he had not change for a ten-shilling note. Ward then used the bad language, for which he was fined 40/. He was ordered to pay tiie 1/3 cab fare and 50/ costs to the cabman, who had attended the Court three times. The Hon. Edward Frederick Ward is the third son of William Humble Ward, second Earl of Dudley. He was born in 1907, and is a second lieutenant in the lOtli Hussars (Reserve). He has a twin brother, the Hon. George Reginald Ward.
