RUGBY, December 30.
Tho British Government has approached the; oilier Governments concerned in tho forthcoming conference on reparations with a suggestion that the conference be hfeld at Lausanne, Switzerland, on January 18. Tho Governments being consulted regarding the suggested time and place are the French,' Italian, Belgian, Japanese, Greek, ! Yugoslav, Rumanian, Portuguese, Pofisn and Czecho-Slovak.
Conversations between British and French experts'; in anticipation of the International Conference, will shortly be resumed. They are directed to narrowing down the margin of difference between tho British andjFrench theses on various outstanding questions, and it is hoped that a considerable measure of common policy will emWge for submission to tho Governments before the conference assembles. \
It is recognised that the present circumstances are unfavourable for achieving a permanent settlement, and it is hoped that a temporary arrangement on the subject of reparation _ payments, which will tidej over the crisis in Germany will be reached at the conference.
