TWO SCHEMES APPROVED. WATER FOR TOWNSHIP. HOAD TO BE CONCRETED. A -representative meeting of payers convened by the Panmure Township ißoad Board last evening unanimously expressed, the opinion that the road through .the township should -b© concreted. . Two schemes for the benefit and improvement of the township were discussed. The, first was the concreting of the main: Panmure-Howick highway through, the township, a matter that has caused a good deal of comment on the part of motorists; the. second was the reticulation of the township with a water service. . . ■ ...
The chairman said that the only way to cope with heavy traffic was to put dowii a concrete road. A show of hands unanimously supported the proposition, and the board was given the authority of the meeting to go ahead with the scheme. The cost of the road is estimated at afoout £4500. "The destruction of Dyer's Hall by fire is a ■warning to the township to get a water service," said the chairman, Mr. George Turton. The scheme for reticulation, which is -likely to cost £3000, was approved. The rates of Panmure have been kept down to Id in the £, and the two improvement scheme will entail a rise of Id. It was,stated that the two schemes were the first signs of improvement in the township for a number of years.
