TRACK GALLOPS.
WORK AT ELLERSLIE. LLANORE DISPLAYS SPEED. GOOD EFFORT BY VANDYKE. Aβ the result of the recent rain there was no eting in the ground at Ellerslie this morning, and the going was in firstclass order. There were a few gallops on the course proper, on which the trestles were out about 30ft, but the bulk of the fast work was carried out on No. 2 grass track. Several jumpers with engagements at the Waipa meeting were schooled over hurdles in the centre.
The Course Proper. Taneriri, Sir Mond and United were associated over a round, completing their task in 2.7 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.24 1-5. Sir Mond and Taneriri were on terms at the finish, several lengths head of United. Operatic was going better than Miss Sylvia at the conclusion of halr_ a mile run in 545. The, two-year-old Kiltowyn cantered round to the three-fur-long post, and ran home in 39 2-ss.
No. 2 Grass. Grand Spirit was going better than Stimulant at the end of sis furlongs in 1.18 1-5, the first three taking 38 l-ss. Speedfast, carrying a good weight, strode over seven furlongs in 1.41, doing it very easily. Tatyoon and Moonfleet both sprinted down the straight. Desert Star, Hawthorn and Good Idea were timed to run half a mile in 51 3-ss, Desert Star giving his best performance to date. Karangapai was given an easy task, taking 55 l-5s for his last half-mile. Spring Abbey completed a six-furlong task in 1.24 2-5, doing it comfortably. Pal got to the end of a similar task in 1.19 1-5, and Patutahi, after schooling, ran six furlonss in 1.25. Royal Gallant was too good for Wild Country over six furlongs, the first three taking 37 3-ss, and the full distance 1.17 1-5. Golden Spahi finished up his work by running five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Vilma, who is on the improve, completed four furlongs in 51 2-ss. Te Money was sent six furlongs, which she covered in 1.18 2-5, the Kilbroney— Maveelish filly assisting her over the last five, which occupied 1.6. Whirlalong and The Jack Jumper aprinted four furlongs in 51 3-os, the latter doing best.
After Breakfast. Catoma was given strong work, but was not after time. Llanore recorded the best half-mile of the morning, running the distance in 49 4-ss. Light Step and the Depredation gelding in J. Chieholm's stable got to the end of half a mile in 51 4-ss. Wishbone, carrying a light weight, covered six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. Morehu sprinted three furlongs in 38 3-ss, and Merry Lu ran a similar distance in 36 4-ss. Vandyke, after running his first three furlongs in 37 3-ss, got to the end of six furlonzs'in 1.16 3-5. Cynthia N. gave Koman Mascot a start, and _ was up with her at the end o£ half a mile in 51 3-56. Kawainga began better than Royal Action, and was holding him safely at the end of six furlongs run in 1.24 3-5. The former could have done much better. Escalus and Glenhaupo ran home from the halfmile post in 53 l-ss. They began slowly, and covered the last three furlongs in 38 4-ss. On the two-year-old track Bright Flower and Rikanui sprinted three furlongs in 41 3-os. There was little between them at the finish.
Others to do useful work -were Brainpton, Manawhenua, Excella Tea, Golden Sceptre, Click Clack, Marchette, Jewelled Girdle, larporley, Silene and Puriri Park.
The Jumpers. Patntahi (Olive) and Cat-i-mes (J. Burgess) gave a safe display over four echooling hurdles. Full Measure (Chaplin) jumped two pony hurdles in good style. Sir Archie (Chaplin) was sent over two schooling hurdles, which he cleared safely, although he screwed somewhat when landing. Golden Wedding (H. Dulieu) and Master Clements (J. Burgess) gave a good ■exhibition while jumping four hurdles, the former showing improvement on her previous efforts recently. Dominican (Craddock), after jumping one hurdle, was joined by Ruffles (E7 Stanway), the pair negotiating the remaining three fences in pleasing style. Dominican afterwards jumped four more. After schooling Ruffles ran six furlongs on the No. 2 graes track in 1.19 4-5. Neil (Williams), Billy Boy (Craddock) and Coolmint (H. Dulieu) were companions over four hurdles, each giving a good display.
