IMPORTANCE OF DIET.
An indication of the amount of interest which is being taken in a series of lectures being given by Mr. R. T. McLean (president of the Wellington Dietitian Association), was given by the large number present at the Lewis Eady Hall last evening. The Rev. M. J. Byrt presided. Sir. McLean began his talk by outlining the essentials for good health. He stressed the importance of sunshine, fresh air and exercise, together with right thinking and correct food combination. He pointed out that from earliest infancy many became the victims of indigestion or constipation, or both, and explained how the faulty combinations of foods was the cause of a good deal of disease to-day. In many cases by the time middle-life was reached, and when the body should be at its highest efficiency, mentally and ■physically, it was found that by reason of wrong diet in the earlier years disease, suffering and inefficiency were brought about.
Mr. McLean said that diet was the foundation stone of physical health. All curative therapy and modern preventive medicine acknowledged the medicinal effects, of correct, food as the basic essential of health.
