DIARY IN WAREHOUSE.
LIST OF CONVICTIONS. OWNER DENIES BURGLARY. IMPRISONED FOR VAGRANCY. , It is not often that a stranger's diary is found in a warehouse, especially when the diary contains a list of its author's convictions. William Cant, who appeared in- the Police Court this morning to answer charges of breaking and entering a warehouse at Devonport on November 4, with intent to commit a crime, and of being idle and disorderly with insufficient means of support, admitted that a diary, found in the warehouse, was his, but he pleaded not guilty to the first charge and guilty to the second.
Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the police would not offer any evidence on the first charge. Accused had been hanging round Devonport for some time, making himself a nuisance. On November 4 the warehouse. of the North Shore Motor and Petrol Supply Co. was broken into, and afterwards a diary was found on the premises. Accused admitted it was his, but could not account for its being found in the warehouse. Cant, said Mr. Kelly, would, not work. Examining accused's diary, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., remarked: "Oh, I see he has kept a diary of his convictions. Ho enters them up all right. This is the 44th time he has been here. He can now make another entry."
Cant was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
