CHURCH NEWS.
ORDINATION AT ST. MART'S. One priest and two deacons were prdained at St. Mary's Cathedral yesterday morning tj Archbishop Averill, in the presence of a large congregation. Canon R. H. Hobday, vicar of St. Columba, Grey Lynn, and other clergy assisting were Canon W. Fancourt and the Rev. R. J. Stanton. The Rev. B. C. D. Palmer, assistantcurate of Holy Trinity Parish, Otahuhu, was admitted to the priesthood. Messrs. H. Fallows and Paki Tipene, students at St. John's College, Tamaki. were ordained as deacons. Mr. Fallows' first appointment will be assistant-curate at All Saints', Ponsonby, and Mr. Tipene is to assist Canon W. Keretene in missionary work amongst the 'Maoris in the Whangarei district.: BIRKENHEAD PRESBYTERIANS. At the annual meeting of the congregation of the Presbyterian Church, Birkenhead, satisfactory reports were- submitted, showing steady progress in all departments. The report referred in eulogistic terms to the work of the minister, the Rev. P. J. Wainwright. The statement of accounts showed that receipts exceeded those of the previous year. A committee of management was elected as follows:—Mesdames H. V. Hayman and F. Taylor, Miss McGilp, Messrs. H. Y. Hayman (secretary), A. Campbell (treasurer}, F. Taylor, B. Hilliam, J« Taft, H. Male and R. Drummond.
