CALCUTTA, December 1,
"I am completely mystified," declared Sir C. Raman, the famous scientist, after witnessing a remarkable demonstration of poison swallowing by a Madrasi named Yogi Narasingha Swami, at Calcutta University, under the strictest scientific supervision.
The man lapped up every available known kind of deadly poison, showing a preference vfor cyanide of potassium, varying this with broken glass and nails without any ill effect.
The poison was retained-in his stomach and he was afterwards X-rayed, the position of the articles being located.
Sir C. Raman declares that the performance is a definite challenge to modern science. Swami declared that he was a student of "Hatha Yoga," meaning suspended animation. t
