MINING.

NOKOMAI SLUICING COMPANY.

At a meeting of shareholders in the Nokomai Sluicing Company, Ltd., states the Otago "Dally Times," a resolution was carried that the company should sell its undertaking to a new company, to be incorporated nnder the name of the Nokomai Gold Mining Company, Ltd., in terms of the agreement submitted to that meeting, and with a view to carrying out the sale the company be wound up voluntarily. The liquidator was authorised and directed to bring into operation the agreement for the sale of the company's undertaking to the Nokomai Gold Mining Company. Ltd., but with power for the liquidator to agree to any alteration approved by the present directors of the company.

GOLDEN PROGRESS COMPANY. A meeting of the Golden Progress Quartz Mining Company, Ltd.. was held last week. A wash-up was completed on the morning before the meeting, -with the result that loooz of gold were retorted from 10S tons of quartz. This return is the result of three complete weeks' crushing—one week of the four-weekly period being idle on account of the fact that the WUfley table recently purchased hag been in the course of construction during the past week, and various structural alterations had to be effected. Accounts amounting to £654 14/3 'for the past month's operations were passed for payment It was reported that advice Lad just been received that the gold sent to the Melbourne Mint showed the very satisfactory return of £5 4/ an ounce for 3970z.

ALEXANDER MINES. The following report has been received from the secretary of Alexander Mines. Ltd.:—No 3 drive. McVicar: No driving was carried out during the week owing to many employees being absent through sickness. No. 3 Intermediate north level: This level has been worked part time only, the men being required to man the stoping faces. The position of the face is now 58 feet north of rise, and is showing stone 7ffc 6in wide. The stoping length of this block is 12S feet. Stoping has been carried out in the usual faces on varying widths from three feet to nine feet, the one broken carrying highly payable values. The clean-up at the Alexander mines, Reefton, for November was as follows:— 457 tons crushed for r>24oz 7dwt of melted gold. By cyanide, 308 tons of sands were treated for 90oz 7dwt of bullion. Estimated value of return £2408, exclusive of premium on gold sale in London and premium on exchange.

O.P.Q. MINING COMPANY, LTD. The secretary of the O.P.Q. Mining Company, Ltd., Waipori, reports a return of 90oz 12grams retorted gold from 130 tons of quartz for the fortnight ended November 22. The usual fortnightly dividend of £1 on each £50 share has been declared.

OKARITO WASH-UP. The wash-up from the Ok.irito dredge (South Westland) from November 20 to November 28 totalled 1340z 9dwt for 148 hours' dredging.

MOANATAIAEI. During the week the following work has been carried out in the' New Cambria section: —The rise is up 37 feet from the floor of the level on the underlie. One portion of the reef has apparently gone off in the hangingwall and we are following the footwall portion, which is about two feet wide and well mineralised. The drive on No. 1 reef was extended to 20 feet. The reef has opened out and i <: about four feet wide. We have not yet reached the break. In the (irive at bottom of the winze we have cut another small break and the reef has been displaced.

MANAGERS' REPORTS. Golden Dawn.—ln the stopes on No. 1 reef above No. 3 level four machines have been'at work breaking ore, also filling the old stopes. The reef in this block averages Bft wide and still looks well, and the ore broken by assay is of very fair value. In the stopes on No. 3 reef above No. 3 level two machines have been at work breaking ore. also filling for the old stopes. The reef iu the block averages 3ft wide, and the ore broken by assay -is of very fair value. The crosscut east from No. 2 level to cut No. 3 reef has been driven 10ft, total 10ft. The country rock so far is a splendid class for carrying reefs, being interlaced with bright mineral veins and quartz stringers.
