"SHEER PROPAGANDA."
MR. HOLDSWORTH'S VIEW
EVERY EIGHT. TO STAND."
. '"This. i<s sheer political propaganda, and the. United party has not a legaj leg to stand on," said Mr. Hqldsworth when the United statement was referred to him this afternoon. "We also have had high legal advice on the point raided, and this shows conclusively that I have every right to contest the scat. This has been supported by the Chief Electoral Officer in Wellington.
"-As I have pointed out previously, my opponents can find nothing; apaihst my character, but .have. stooped to the lengths of finding grouuds in my public service to attempt to prevent my victory at the polls. If citizens are going to allow this type of political propaganda, then democracy and •democratic institutions are in peril. It is ridiculous-to suggest that electors who carit their votes in ray favour on Wednesday will be disfranchised; on the contrary, their votes will be as valid as those of electors in any other constituency, besides, giving them an. opportunity of showing their intolerance of propaganda of this description! Air I .can say is I am going to the poll, with every confidence in the eligibility of my candidature, and in the determination of the electors of Roskill not to be misled by some eleventh-hour canard. "It may be necessary, in the interests of fair play and justice," Mr. Holdsworth, added, "for me to take action after the poll against those responsible for endeavouring to injure my candidature."
