COALITION IN MANUKAU.

(Published by Arrangement.)

Mr. Stan. Rickards at Greenwood's Corner.

The Coalition Candidate for Manukau, Mr Stan. Rickards, addressed a large meeting of electors at Greenwood * Corner Methodist Hall on Saturday, night .Mr. R G Clark presided. The • candidate dealt with several matters not previously touched on during his campaign, including the Prestige of ■ Parliament, especially leadership, and the proposed Ottawa Conference. He claimed that he could,- and would give the electorate all time necessary for social work, but maintained that the principal duty' of a member was to work to bring about improvements m toe conditions of the masses through Parliament. He recognised- the good work- ot social institutions in the electorate. -L-ess interference by the State in business was strongly urged by the candidate. He briefly'outlined a scheme for self government of industry. State subsidy of -local doctors was a'matter worth very serious consideration. Early attention of the sick wh-» are unable to pay at present might eave big hospital bills. Relief workers, especially married men, would receive" his practical sympathy and help. He would strive to better their lot, pending their absorption in permanent work. He, Mr. Rickards, stood four square behind the Coalition leaders, Messrs. Forbes, Coates and Stewart. The attempt being made to ehow that there is a difference between the Manukau Labour candidate and other Labour candidates must fail. He, the Manukau Labour candidate, subscribes to the Labour policy and votes accordingly. The* mantle of Seddon is. not on the Labour party, and he believed the people jealised that this was only election talk. i'A vote 'of thanks' was' enthusiastically I carried.
