AUCKLAND WOOL SALE.

BROKERS' OFFICIAL REPORT.

BIDDING VERY ERRATIC

STALE WOOL NEGLECTED.

As indicated in our progress report on Saturday, the Auckland wool sale proved exceedingly disappointing to growers who had looked for much better prices than were offered. The sale was concluded in the afternoon, and it is estimated that of approximately 23,000 bales offered, 14,000 were sold, and the balance withdrawn.

The brokers' official report is as follows: —

The offering, in the order of sale, was:—Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., 2243 bales; Farmers' Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., and North Auckland Farmers' Co-op. Ltd., in conjunction, 5515; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., 5442; Dalgety and Co., Ltd., G452; Abraham and Williams, Ltd., 3137; total, 22,789 bales. There was a full and representative bench of operators, Bradford, Continental and American buyers being present, as well as buyers for Dominion mills and scourers.

At no time could the bidding be described as animated, and it was very erratic.

Passings "were heavy, only about 50 per cent of the offering being sold. In considering to-day's prices, it must be borne in mind that after the close of the last New Zealand series there was a very heavy decline in London, and only part of this drop has been recovered by the rise recently reported. Nevertheless, to-day's Auckland sale Avas disappointing.

A noticeable feature of the sale was that the old and stale wool was practically neglected, and to effect sales in this class very low prices had to be accepted. Buyers report that they are instructed not to buy wools except at a very low figure, these wools having deteriorated to a very marked extent, being badly discoloured and stained, especially those with pieces included. The range of prices realised was ae follows, last March and November prices being shown also, for comparative purposes:— Xot., March, Nov., 1931. 1031. 1930. Corriedale— Super lOdtolld — — Medium ...
