CORNWELL CUP CLASS.
THREE CLUB RACES. Races for the Takapuna one*design class (Cornwell Cup boats) were held on Saturday by the Ponsonby, Takapuna and Tamaki Yacht Clubs over one round of a triangular course, starting and finishing off the King's whari. The wind was light but steady from the west, which gave the boats a good test on and off the wind. The event was postponed from opening day owing to the squally weather and the three races were sailed simultaneously, Delphine winning two and Oi one. The boys were all very keen, and a good start saw Tio away at gunfire, a length ahead of Delphine, with Trevic, Oi, Driazelle, Kitty, and Me Too all close up. The westerly gave a flat run to the Sandspit mark, and all set their spinnakers very smartly for the first leg of the course. The Sandspit mark was rounded as follows: Tio, 2h 55m 40s; Trevic, 2h 56m ss; Delphine, 2h 56ra 40s 1 ; Kitty, 2h 56m 45s ; Me Too, 2h 56m 50s; Oi, 2h 56m 555; Driazelle, 2h 57m 30s. Hauling on the wind after rounding the Sandspit, all mado a long board on starboard towards the southern shore; Tio still led. Good time was made on this tack, and the boats fetched close to their mark, afterwards standing in towards the Akarana clubhouse to make the most of the slack water at the back of the tiile deflector. Kitty was the first to come about at 3h llm 50s, the others following at varying intervals, but all were closs together, except the new boat Driazelle, which eventually retired. Me Too, which had been picking up on the leaders, now crossed ahead oC Kitty and took the lead. On clearing the end of the tide deflector, Me Too was leading by two lengths from Ivitty, followed by Trevic, Tio, Oi and Delphine. There was little between the first four, but Me Too, very well handled, increased her lead, and, judging her distance well, luffed across the finishing line 50 seconds ahead of Kitty, which was 40 seconds ahead of Trevic.
The finishing times were: Me Too 3h Ssin 20s, Kitty 3h 36m 10s, Trevic 3h 36m SOs Oi 3<h 37m 11s, Tio 3h 37m 425, Delphiue 3h 38m os.
