OBITUARY.
MR. P. C. CAUNT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Regret was felt in Portland when news was received that Mr. P. C. Caunt had passed away in the Auckland Hospital. The late Mr. Gaunt had been in the employ of Messrs. Wilsons (N'.Z.) Portland Cement, Ltd., .for some years and was respected by all who knew him. He took a keen interest in the activities of the Portland- township. He was a foundation member of the Portland Bowling Club and at the time of, his death was secretary to the club. He wae also a vice-president of the Horti l cpltural. Society. The deceased had been in ill-health for some months. He went to Auckland a . month ago and entered the Auckland Hospital, where his death occurred.
v MR. JOHN BEGG
A former well-known, resident of Whangaroa, Mr. John Begg, of Ngapuhi Road,. Reniuera, died on November 28, aged 90 years. Mr. Begg landed in Auckland from the ship Nimrod in 1803, and shortly afterward went to live at Whangaroa. When the County Council was formed in 1896, Mr. Begg was appointed cle.rk, a position he filled for many years. The interment will be at Whangaroa on December 1.
