CONFIDENCE IN FUTURE.

ANNUAL MEETING OF Y.M.C.A. ECONOMIES TO BE EFFECTED. "We have no need to strike a despondent note. The association has never been carrying on better work than at present and with care our finances will be re-established soundly," said Mr. C. H. Furness, president of the Auckland Young Men's Christian Association, ot the annual meeting. Mr. Furness said, in moving the adoption of the annual report, which was published in the "Star" last evening, that the co-operation 'of the directorate, the staff and innumerable voluntary helpers was enabling the association to carry on work acknowledged to be unexcelled by any other Y.M.C.A., .either in New Zealand or in Australia. A branch had been established in one suburb last year, and since then misdemeanours among the youth in that district had decreased by over 50 per cent. Ho expected that later figures would show a decrease of 75 per cent. The general secretary, Mr. Vernon Drew, in presenting the balance-sheet, said the year had been a difficult one. On the year's working there had been a deficit of £1510 and there was a banlc overdraft of £8954. It was expected to save £1000 by economics in the coming year. Mr. C. H. Furness was unanimously re-elected president, and the only nominees for the vice-presidencies, Messrs. D. Henry, H. G. Fountain and J. Ambury, were elected. The following were elected to fill the five vacancies on the board of directors:—Messrs. E. E. Kitchener, F. Paton, C. J. Tunks, D. R. Fairgray and W. W. King. Other officers elected were:—Honorary secretary, Mr. J. Gordon Smith; honorary treasurer, Mr.' R. H. Horsley; honorary assistant-treasurer, Mr. W. C. Browne; honorary solicitor, Mr. J. B. Johnston; auditor, Mr. V. Kirk.
