BASTION POINT.

YACHT CLUB'S CLAIM,

CITY COUNCIL'S TERMS

AMENDMENTS TO LEASE

If the Tarnaki Yaclit Club 5s prepared to amend the lease to suit the requirements of the City Council, nu objection to the use of Bastion Pout for the erection of a clubhouse will .be raised. On the recommendation of the town planning committee, this decision was made at a meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening. It was also decided to take steps to bring Bastion Point within the city limits. The conditions, proposed by the committee, were:— (1) That the land and buildings will be made available on special occasions for use by kindred clubs at a reasonable charge. (2) That boats are not stored, painted or worked upon unless out of view of the harbour or road. (3) That the building, when crected, shall be maintained to the satisfaction of the council. (4) That the club agrees to the area being included within the city limits, thereby making it amenable to the council's by-laws. (5) That the anomalies in clauses relating to closing of the gates be rectified. (6) That no advertising matter of any description, except that relating to functions held on the land or in the building be exhibited on any part of the land or building, and then only such as arc approved by the council. (7) That there shall be an obligation on the club to utilise the land for the purpose of the lease within five years from the.date of the lease. The chairman of the committee, Mr. T. BloodwoYth,. said that at first he had been opposed to the scheme, but he had altered his view after, going through the terms of the club's lease. If the club agreed to the conditions now proposed, and he believed it would, the publicinterest would be fully protected. The point would be for all practical purposes a public aquatic sports ground, provided without cost to the ratepayers. The report was adopted. The commodore of the Tamaki Yacht Club, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, expresses his thanks to the City Council for their decision, and on behalf of the club has accepted the conditions imposed.
