RICCARTON GOSSIP.

HORSES FOR AUCKLAND.

F. D. JONES' TEAM

dunrayen AND SHATTER

(Bv Telegraph. —Special to "Star."}

CHRISICHURCH, Wednesday

There is uut a great deal doing on' the Kiccarton tracks at present- Most of the trainers are content with giving their charges useful work, but things will liven ud in a few days as the Ashburton meeting will claim attention at' the end of next ireek and after that the holiday engagements will be looming up. A H. Eastwood will leave to-night for Auckland to ifulhl riding engagements at the 1 Takapuna meeting. United and Whirlalong will be among his mounts on Saturday. R ;E. Coveny has made great progress lately and now he is well on the way to complete recovery irom the injuries he suffered when Straight Course fell in the Geraldine Cup.'. -He hopes'to resume raceriding at the Hororata meeting, to be held nn December "19, and if he comes- through that fixture all right he will continue regularly at some of the holiday meetings. ijiJ Lloyd, will leave for the North early next month, taking Gay Crest, Tout le Monti, Adelphi, Desert Song and Royal Eabtf The intention is to race these H V e horses at Woodville, after which the team will be divided, Gay" Crest and lout le Mond going on to Auckland, wJnle the other three will compete at Manawatu, followed by Wairarapa or Mar ton. lhey are allin the best of health at present. Sir Charles Clifford's horses will do their holiday racing at the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings, but the constitution of the team has not yet been decided. {} Murray-Aynsley is undecided about his plans for. the holiday meetings and he no definite arrangements for another-week. -He worked. Spoon- andKakara in company over six furlongs yesterday, the pair being sent the reverse L v in the hope that Spoon would finish on straight. The Tea Tray mare, however, showed a disposition to hang; in, just a« ghe did when racing'the left-handed way of the track at Riccarton-this month. Another objection against sending hereto Auckland is that she was not nominated for the important events when they closed a few weeks ago, and she; does not look like proving up to_ the big weights she would receive in minor races. It is .probable that Compns will be one ci the Southern visitors to Ellerslie for the Auckland Cup meeting. -He is a good stayer and that is the place for a horse ci his type. , • • •. . P. Y. Mason worked Jaloux and Azalia the'reverse way yesterday./ They went in company, doing some short m the course of a couple of circuits. They look in capital order, and it is probable that they will do their holiday racing at the Auckland'.summer meeting, ' F. D* Jones gave most of his team strong work yesterday. He will be very-bnsy at Ashburton next week, as he has nominated Solvent, Moorbird, Autumn Bird, Jason s Quest, Jainiperj; Hilary and. Shatter. " It is practically certain that' he will take Dunraven a& Shatter to Ellerslie. Solvent, is a possibility, thoiigh- ih her case it will depend on how she progresses during the next ten days. A fourth member of the team is also being considered for the trip. Cricket Bat has not done 1 much since the recent meeting was concluded. He has shown slight evidence of;; soreness, but' it is hoped that he will freshen up with a short rest. If he goes on a U right in tie meantime, he may be a competitor at the Manawatu meeting. , A. McAnlay has turned Night Guard and Water Polo out for a spell, their recent form giving no suggestion that they were equal to. winning races. McAnlay is now without any horses in active commission. Ramo moved freely in a gallojv of about a mile yesterday. He looks in capital order and he may show sip in whichever event he contests at Ashburton. After that he should be a good .prospect for' one of the holiday meetings. The imported horse Honeycomb has eome on well lately. He is galloping in Rood style and he may ibe a winner before long. Softer track conditions than those ruling at present' will help him.
