WAIKATO SHOW.
JUDGING THE STOCK. OUTSTANDING FAT LAMB EXHIBITS. PEOPLE'S DAY ARRANGEMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") HAMILTON, this day. The 40th annual show held under the auspices of the Waikato A. and P. Association was opened to-day at the picturesque grounds at Claudelands in brilliant weather. Both numerically and from the point of view of quality the entries received are exceptionally good. An outstanding feature this year is the , group of fat lambs, entries in this class having come from every part of the South Auckland province. Since its inception, this particular event lias 'hecoma increasingly popular and important, with the result that it is now one of the finest advertisements which the Dominion's export lamb trade possesses. These groups are first judged in tens, and then killed, shipped Home, and rejudged at the Smithfield markets in London. Prominent English judges have said that exhibits in former competitions contained the finest specimens of lambs ever seen on the London market. For butchers' purposes the meat was incomparable. Although to-day was judging day. many ring competitions attracted.a, good attendance this afternoon. People's Day will be held to-morrow. For many years this event has been on a Thursday, and this is the '* first occasion on which Saturday has - been chosen. Special efforts have been, made to make this year's function a success and to resuscitate public interest in the big exhibition and wealth of attractions on the productions of the province. Special trains from all parts witl be run to-morrow at reduced fares and, provided the weather holds fine, the executive committee anticipate that the attendance will be a record one.
