Captain Bellman stated that, his vessel was lying 19 miles off Cape Ann. He flashed signals requesting "contact boate" to come from the shore ahd take his cargo of liquor. The flashes attracted the coastguard vessel, which, he alleges, bore down on' the power boat and sank her immediately.

The coastguard officials refused to comment except to say that Captain Bellman's boat is a notorious rumrunner. It waii running without lights and was struck accidentally.
