DOGS ON BEACHES.
I noticed in 'the "Star" recently that at ai meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council the matter of a signed petition in connection with dogs 011 Thome's Beach was dealt with, the inspector being instructed to pay regular visita to the beaches and to prosecute the owners of roaming dogs. It would be a yeoman service rendered if the City Council would do likewise* I paid a visit to Shelly Beach on Saturday afternoon and counted ten dogs roaming about. Three had collars, the remainder had not. A good service that would 'be appreciated by the community of Ponsonby and Heme Bay would be for the dog tax collector to collect all the roaming dogs and hand them over to the Zoo authorities. The useless lot of mongrels that are allowed to roam the streets are a constant source of annoyance to motorists and cyclists, I happen to live next door to a man who keeps two useless mongrels that are never, tied up, and I have been kept busy at times stoning other strays and also kept awake half the night by barking dogs. This state of affairs is beyond human endurance and should not be allowed in city areas. They trample down one's vegetable and flower gardens and destroy what has taken hours of time and labour. I trust that it will not be necessary to have to resort to a signed petition before the City Council authorities realise that the roaming dog is a menace on beaches and that their barking is unbearable at times. ANOTHER BEACH LOVER.
