BEHIND PRISON WALLS
Novel Motor Display Before
Prisoners.
TOUCH WITH OUTSIDE WORLD
LONDON, November 2,
There was -a' most remarkable motor show yesterday in Maidstone gaol, where prisoners are serving long sentences, but where first offenders are, housed together to escape the evil influence or old prisoners. Some, have been cut off from the world for a generation, so the authorities decided to exhibit a, selection of '1932 motor cars in order that;', the prisoners might realise the improvements in speed and other^inventions.
The latest sports models and family luxury cars were shown. Private owners assisted the trade to make the spectacle complete. The idea was to familiarise the prisoners with the changes in the outer world so that they may be able to re-enter it with some knowledge when their sentences have been served.
The prisoners included Clarence Hatry, the financier, two boy murderers and others sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years.
