SYDNEY, this day,

The compulsory conference between the owners and the Seaman's Union in Melbourne has beeii adjourned until to-morrow. No official statement was made.

It is unofficially reported in Sydney that the conference instructed the Seamen's Union to order the men back to their ships. If the strikers refuse the shipowners will feel at liberty to call for volunteers. Calls will be made in the morning for most of the idle ships in port. '

There was no development in the. strike, and nothing untoward happened in any port yesterday. All interest was centred in the deliberations of the compulsory conference.'

The Customs revenue in October exceeded the estimated revenue by £47,000. This is the first month for over a year that the estimates have been lower than the revenue cbllected. The revenue for July was £2,388,000, for August £2,245,000, September £2,216,000, October £2,431,000. The estimate for each ih6nth is £5,384,000, so that the deficit for the four months has been reduced to £253,000.
