AUSTRALIAN TAXES.
At the meeting of the Dunlop-Perdriau Rubber Company, Ltd., held in Melbourne, the chairman of directors, Mr. W. A. Watt, said the company had paid in various forms of rates and taxes during the year (excluding the sales tax) over £177,000. That was a larger sum than the total net profit of the company. One of the effects arising from the imposition of Customs duties on their raw materials was that landed cost of many of their lines was as high as f.o.b. cost of manufactured {roods in Britain and America. The heavy Customs duties, together with the high price of exchange, raised the landed cost of several important commodities they used • by at least 200 per cent. ' '
