STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

REPUTED TO BE GOOD. Lady Whirlwind let her supporters down badly in the Avondale Stakes, but the heavy going may possibly have prevented this filly racing up to her reputation. She is engaged in the Nursery Handicap on Saturday, and if started and the track conditions are favourable she will have an opportunity to atone for her previous failure. Early reports from Te Eapa credited this filly with being a bit above the ordinary, and 2 such is the case her prospects nest Saturday must be excellent. , - MAY DO BETTER. After getting all the worst of the start in the Mount Albert Handicap at Avondale, Lady Court displayed a lot of speed in the middle stages of the race and was in the lead a furlong from home. However, the effort was too much for her and she tired over the final stages of the race. She has been shaping well in her track work in the interval, and if started in the Tokatoka Handicap on Saturday will have more than an outside chance, particularly so if favoured with a good position at the post.

A PROMISING HACK. On several occasions Emancipation has raced prominently in hack events, and the fact that he will be competing on his home course next Saturday should be an advantage to him. So far the Sir Dighton gelding has failed to win a race, but his form has been promising, and as he has not been overtaxed Eome improvement can be looked for as he becomes more seasoned. He will be meeting several useful hacks in the Awakino Handicap at Avondale, _ but. despite that fact, he is likely to be in the firing line at the finish.. GOING WELL. Little Doubt won the Avondale Cup, which was his first success since he won a double at Te Eapa in June. He started on the second day in the Plumpton Handicap, but failed to get into the money. He ran a fair race in the Mitchelson Cup, finishing about sixth, while he was fifth in the King Edward Handicap, one iniOe and a quarter, on the concluding day. Little Doubt has been galloping well at Avondale recently, and if he repeats his best form should go well in the Dargaville Cup at Avondale on Saturday.

MANAWHENUA'S PROGRESS. Manawhenua is still on the easy list as the result of the swollen joint that prevented him raeing at the Auckland meeting, and the injury does not appear to be improving. As the result oi a knock there is now an open wound on the front oi the fetlock joint, and the Acre gelding was displaying decided signs of lameness a couple of mornings ago. At present Manawhenua is only doing walking exercise onthe lead, and it may be some time beiore he will do any further racing. RACED CONSISTENTLY. Ganpat has raced. consistently this spring and, despite his 9.7 in the Tokatoka Handicap, six furlongs, at Avondale on Saturday, he should be hard to dispose of. He was third in the Sylvia Park Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting with 5.5, and at Avondale won the Mount Albert Handicap, six furlongs, with 8.12. In the Hobson Handicap, seven furlongs, at Ellerslie, with 9.2. he was only beaten by United, who was in receipt of 30lb from him. His form I has been good.

ENGAGED AT AVONDALE. High Co-medy was a Rood two-year-old and "in his first start this season was fourth in the Dunedin Handicap, sis furlongs, at the Pakuranga meeting. His nest start was at Avondale in the Flying Handicap, -but the going was against him. At Ellerslie he was fourth in the Shorts Handicap, six furlongs, though he was well back in the Epsom Handicap on the second day. However, the field he is meeting on Saturday is not nearly as strong as those he encountered in his last two outings and he is likely to be very hard to. bear.

MAY BE IN THE PICTURE. Great Emblem finished third in the Maiden Plate at the Avondale meeting ; ai - mouth. He stated on the second dav and ako at -hilerslie, but his snb-sw-eD: showings —ere not so good. Howevel" he is not meeting nearly as strong a field at Avoadale as he did in his last races, and he looks like being in the pic-rare. HOLLY HOLM IMPROVING. Hollr Holm finished fourth in the Mount Albert Handicap, six furlongs, at the Avondale spring meeting, and at EHe-=He was third in the Hobson Handicap, seven furlongs, to United and Ganpat. He is engaged in tie Tokaioka Handicap, eix furlongs, at the Dargaville meeting on Saturday, and he 100 is as th oiign ne ynu command . some support in that even bis recent consistent running. LIKELY TO RUN WELL. All So 12 It, by General Latour— —Miss Rosa, has been well at_ Te Awamuta recently, .ana reports irom there indicate that he _is likely to run a good race in the Maiden Handicap at Avondale on Saturday. Last season be started on several occasions, his beet effort being when he finished third to Wee Prince and Snow Lap in the Maiden Plate at the Waikato winter meeting. ENGAGED IN MAIDEN. Considerable improvement can be noticed in Hawthorn's condition and bis traoi work of late has also been mueb better than formerly. J. Buchanan has the son of Lueullus engaged in the Maiden Raee at Avondale neit Saturday, and if started he should beat more than beats him. he will be up against several well-seasoned and improving hacks, and if he laLLs to get into the money the race should serve to benefit him for later events. COMING ON. Karangapai is going alon? all right in his work and he should make a good in tbe Awakiao Handicap ax Avondale on Saturday. He ran two good races at the Auckland _ spring meeting, being one of the leaders into the straight in the Gordon Handicao, while he finished fourth m the Hobson Handicap on tie concluding day. Karangapai should be improved as the result 01 those efforts.
