WAIKATO GOSSIP.

HORSES FOR AVONDALE,

PRINCESS BEDE IMPROVED

The support from the Waikato to the Dargaville meeting will not be over strong numerically, but the horses engaged are f r -ti in condition and should 20 weii-Princ-ess Bede. who had her only start of the season at the Arondale meeting, is to be a member of A. Tinker's team fo r the Dargaville meeting. The Catmint —Lady Bede filly has improved since her start- last month, in which she showed plenty of speed, but failed to run tne six furlongs right out. Hit the Deck is t-o have his first start of the season in the Tokatoka Handicap at Arondale on Saturday. A. Tinker has been speeding up this member his team lately. The Nassau —Opera fouryear -old has developed a lot since last season. He was second to Alpiaa. on the Avondale course in the autumn.

Daylight, who is an acceptor for the huniles at Avondale, has not had any racing for a lengthy period. The Day Comet —Cuiragnes gelding has shown winning form in the division. A. Jackson has not been able to give Daylight, owing to unsoundness, a searching preparation and it will take some racing to bring this jumper to his best. Ladv Whirlwind continues to do nicely on the tracks at Te Rapa. At the time of writing M. -J. Carroll had not decided 'whether the V> hirlwind —Clone filly would go to Avondale, but it is f4uite likely the trip will be undertaken. Lady Whirlwind bad a couple of starts, one at Avondale and the other at Ellerslie, but she failed to jump out and was never prominent.

Flying Prince continues to work freely c>n the tracks at Te Rapa. _ It is not often, however, that the Flying King— Vanga horse reproduces it in his races. A. Tinker has him looking a picture, and at Avondale during the week-end he may act up to his best. Prince of Orange is likely to have the services of the Taxanaki apprentice H. E. Stockier in the Dargaville Cup. _ M. J. Carroll has the V alkyrian—Lassie Loon gelding looking particularly well and he should give a good account of himself under his lighf weight on Saturday. Protornint has done well since his racing at the Avondale and Auckland meetings. The Catmint—Protocol col; won j :-ai his first start at Avondale and was i I very unlucky in his next start, while at Ellerslie, where he was again third, he had none the beet of it in the running. Protornint is in the Cup and the mile on Saturday. It is doubtful if a light ■boy can do him justice. If he can Pr<> tomint will also have to be considered if the main eTent should be his mission. Tradesman is to be ridden by F. J. Bentley in the sprint event at Avondale on Saturday. Tradesman has been working well on the tracks at Te. Rapa. The Ra^-erul—Lady Birdwood gelding is very speedy, but a race would considerably benefit him. He must not be from calculations on Saturday with his handy weight. , Holly Holm is to undertake further racing" at the Dargaville meeting. The Acre—Great Effort gelding has _ become more solid as the result of his recent racing. He ran fourth at Avondale and third in his start at Ellerslie, which were good efforts. Holly Holm is an acceptor for the Tokatoka Hack Handicap on Saturday.
