WELLINGTON TROTS.

THE SPRING MEETING.

ACCEPTORS FOR TO-MORROW

THEIR RECENT FORM REVIEWED. {Special to " Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The Wellington Trotting Club will open its season's racing to-morrow. Although the fields are not so large as usual, the acceptances for the various events are quite numerous enough to provide some interesting sport. There will be the customary large contingent from Canterbury, and in the chief event of the eight acceptors all but Purser hai? from the South. Hutt Park Handicap. There is an acceptance of eight in the slow class mile and five furlongs event, the Hutt Park Handicap, all but two being on the limit. Plain Silk, wno was third to Ainiwortny and Ciro at Ashburton at the end of June, looks to be well placed on the limit, a.s the young Silk Thread pacer went 3.33 3-5 for the mile and a half. Linella is showing some improvement in her racing, and this pair may be the best of the limit division. Nyallo Silk won on the course last November but he has not raced well since that time. The North Islander, Murchimes. is aa improving sort who did a good deal of racing last season. The final platings . may be PLAIN SILK LINELLA ! MURCHIMES. Nat Nai Handicap. In a. field of seven in <±he Nai Nai Handicap Audo Spray, Deceitful, Wah and Ben Bingen are on the limit. Audo Spray is solid, but he may not be sound. as_ he has mot raced for some time. Deceitful trotted a solid race when she finished second to Mountain Mist at the Jn meeting of the Canterbury Park Club, and if she is in her best form she may be very hard to beat. Wah is too unreliable to "be backed with any confidence, but were the Peterwah trotter to show his best speed and keep steady he would easily account for the event. Ben Bingen is improving and the Native 'King trotter raced very consistently last season. Nel* son Parrish is a good beginner and he may have made a lot of improvement since he finished second to Merce B.ingen on the Hutt course last March. Great Nelson has hardly done enough work to be at his best, but Great Way showed Epeed in his latest races once he settled to his work. Although the field is not a large one, it may provide a keen contest, and the favourites may be BEN BINGEN NELSON PARRISH DECEITFUL. Bollard Memorial. There should be a capital rate for the chief two-mile event of the day, the Bollard Memorial- Black Lion, on his showing at the August meeting and at New Brighton, cannot be given much chance. She was well backed on each occasion, and performed indifferently. John Jinks, after racing well at the August meeting, did not do so well at New Brighton, and possibly be is at his best over a sprint course. Lily Harold was pacing well in her race at New Brighton when she went to a break. Once she hit her gait again she paced in improved style, and she was finishing on well. Netta Oro let her backers down both at Addington and New Brighton, where she was well backed. She gave Impromptu 24yds at New Brighton j and finished a dead-heat with Tactless for \ second place. Impromptu snow has to give ! her 12yds, and, unless Netta Oro shows improvement. Impromptu may again beat her. Mister Pointer is to be tried at two miles and if he can stay he must be given a chance, as he is a more than useful pacer. Impromptu looks likely_ to be favourite, after his success at New Brighton, as the Pedro Pronto pacer appears to be improving, and he is a good stayer. His success at New Brighton was a rather easy one. Grand Canyon looks well, and if he is in the humour he will keep the field busy. He won the two-mile event at the Waikato Club's meeting last May in 4.35 4-5, and he should have improved since that time. Purser is a good two-miler, who will be racing on the course on which he is trained. He was third to Happy Land and Dillon Logan on the same course last March, when he went 4.32. Purser does not always make a good beginning, and this may be against his chances. The chief fancies may be

IMPROMPTU NETTA ORO GRAND CANYON. Railway Handicap. Gold Country, who has won on each of his two starts, is certain to see a very short price in the Railway Handicap, as he has been showing good form in his work. Worthy King and Tini Uria may be his hardest opponents, but they will need to show a good deal of improvement to beat the Key de Oro pacer. The public may go for GOLD COUNTRY WORTHY KING. Sharpe Handicap. The field in the Sharpe Handicap does not seem to be a very strong one, and the running in the Hutt Park Trial Handicap may throw some, light on the prospects of more than one of_the candidates. Perhaps moEt money will go on LINELLA PLAIN SILK SHORTLY. Wifford Handicap. Of the seven horses in the Wilford Handicap, the two-mile trotters' race, all but King's Guard and Mountain Mist are engagAd in the Nai Nai Handicap earlier in the day. King's Guard, who is a four-year-old by Native King from Lady .Nan, "is owned "in Palmerston Northland last season he won four races in six starts. He is now tackling better company but if he is as good as claimed he should have no difficulty in succeeding from the limit. "Mountain Ifet had a somewhat easy victory at New Brighton last week and the race should improve him. The contest may be between KING'S GUARD ■MOUNTAIN MIST GREAT WAY. Wellington Handicap. The fast mile and a quarter event, the Wellineton Handicap, has a good field oi ten engaged and this should provide one of the best contests of the day. George Rev won so easily at New Brighton that he will probably be a solid favourite. Xeagh, who is showing a return to form, was third to Somerby and Some Guv in the mile harness event at NewBrighton, and he should race well here. Jewel Elect and Lady Author, two North Islanders, have both raced well in. sprint events. Jewel Elect won at the Tara-j naki meeting last Easter. Brentlight, after racing over two miles, is to be : tried S3 a sprinter again. He is in nne form and has been racing very consistently of late. Impromptu and Grand Canv'on are in -sees earlier in the day. It looks as though the public may fancy GEORGE REY BRENTLIGHT LADY AUTHOR. The Spring Handicap. Like the previous race, the final event, the Spring Handicap, will be run over a mile and a quarter. , fchould Gold Country fail in the Railway Handicap, he will be supported for this event, as he can sprint as Trell as stay. The three-year-old Silver de Oro will be making his first appearance since he won the Sapling Stakes last season. Sister Rose is smart over the distance, and the Nekon pacer T-avis is also useful. Worihv King may do better here thm in the Railway Handicap earlier in the day, which is run over a raHe and fire furlongs. In the absence of ■ -old Country the best may be SILVER DE ORO SISTER ROSE „ ■ TRAVIS.
