ONLOOKER'S VIEWPOINT.
CYCLING HANDICAPS.
Mr- J. Auekram, handicapper for ike] Manukau Amateur Cycle Club, writes:— "Beading through the amateur cycling notes in last evening's 'Star/ I came across a pieoe dealing -with, the of H. V. Gordon in. the jnnior championship i held last Saturday. It -wdnld appear to: the average reader that I. as handicapp_er, deliberately victimised Gordon by -placing Mm on 45s by himself and not on scratch with A. Robinsoo, thereby causing him to lose any chance of -winning the championship sash which is presented to the cyclist gaining fastest time. My reason for giving Gordon a start from Kobinson is this: Robinson had, wo to last Saturday, defeated Gordon four times in succession for time hrmom-E, three times from tae same mark, scratch, and again on the Satnxaay nrevions to the championship, giving u-or-don 30s in 10 miles. On last Saturday, Gordon, off 455. ttzs first, Robinson (&cr! second' and fastest, beaten by inches. Siirely these facts Justify my action m putting Gordon out on a mark. Any one is open to fair criticism, but I leel tins is not" myself or the cyclists -under , discussion.. 1 *
