WAR ON BUSH VERMIN.
STOATS, WEASELS AND FERRETS.
The action of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society in advertising that it would pay a reward of 2/6 for each ferret, stoat and weasel tail received, was condemned by the Government in a letter received at last evening's meeting Of the society. The communication etated that the amended regulation removed the protection from these animals wherever they were found in areas of natural forest larger than 10 acres in extent. To advertise the payment of a reward was an extension of the original . principle It could hot be countenanced, and a continuation of the practice might be met with a counter-move for the restoration of the protection. As an alternative, it was suggested that men be employed on thd bush areas, and paid wages fOf the destruction of the vermin. It was decided to reply that the society would continue its efforts through the rangers. . The secretary, Mr. C. M. Gordon, eaid that since the removal 6f the protection rewards totalling £70 had been paid for 1567 tails.
