PERVERSITY OF A COUNCIL.
One wonders greatly why the Devonport Borough Council, which declares it lias no money to spend on the upkeep of its roads and professes to study economy, is now proposing to erect new 'bathing sheds on Cheltenham Beach, which are to cost about £400. There are already bathing facilities available which should suffice for the present needs of the general public. The residents on the beach near to the proposed site are not at all keen to have bathing sheds erected in such close proximity to their houses, thereby blocking their view, in some cases to a large extent, and also creating mruch undesirable nofee around their quiet and restful homesteads all through the bathing season. lam quite sure that most ratepayers, especially those residing on the beach, would consider it much wiser, more preferable, and economical, to spend any money that is available on some of the roads and pathways that are so sadly in need of repair. I hope our councillors will read and consider these words. PRO BONO PUBLICO.
