ROTORUA ELECTRICITY.
EXTENSION TO FARMERS
COUNTY WANTS ACTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Wednesday. Further negotiations are in progress for the extension of the electrical district of the Tourist Department in Rotorua. .An application. has been put in to give the Department authority to operate over a large area outside the borough, and the County Council was asked to give its approval to the extension at Wednesday's meeting. | In the past the County Council has adopted the attitude that while country residents would be glad to take their electrical supply from the Department they wanted some assurance that tho current would be made available within a reasonable time. The electrical engineer of the Department said it was fully intended to extend the reticulation to Ngongotaha district, but it was a question of finance. They had applied for a grant, and if the money were forthcoming the s work could be started. If they had a portion of the amount he thought the Department could meet the requirements of the coming season. The council will not oppose the issue of the license, but it will point out to the Government, that it was understood that a grant of £1500 had been asked for by the Department to extend the reticulation, and urge that at least a portion of the amount be made available to meet requirements of the coming dairying season.
