BURGLARY SUSPECTS.
HOBSON STREET ARREST.
BOLTED FROM DETECTIVE. REMANDED WITHOUT BAIL. t Two young men, suspected by the police of committing burglaries in the suburbs, are in custody, awaiting trial. One, a young man named Austin, was arrested by Detective Knight in a pawn? shop on the morning of Monday, July 17, Avhile the other, Thomas Joseph Fenton, who was accosted by Detective A. Moore, outride the chief post office, the same morning, bolted from the detective while being taken across Quay Street to the Queen's wharf police station.
Fenton, a labourer, aged 23, - was arrested by Detective Moore at 7 o'clock this morning in a house in Hobson Street. After Fenton had bolted, he sped along Quay Street and disappeared after reaching Customs Street. Ever since, Detective Moore has been seeking Fenton, and last night he called at the house where he was staying and waited until a late hour, but the wanted man did not return. Early this morning, the detective went to the house and there arrested Fenton on a charge of breaking and entering, on August 14, the house of Henry Bath Jenkins, and stealing clothing and jewellery of the total value of £25.
Fenton, for whom Mr. Noble appeared, was brought before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. at the Police Court to-day, when he was remanded until September 2. Bail was refused, Detective-Sergeant Kelly stating that a number of other charges of breaking and entering would probably be preferred againet accused.
