SYDNEY, this day.
The "Sydney Morning Herald," in un editorial discussing the intense agitation in West Australia for secession from the federation, says the idea that West Australia has been prejudiced by joining the Commonwealth can hardly be denied, but there are legal difficulties not easily surmounted.
One State cannot secede upon its own initiative and it follows that members of the federation cannot releas-e it even if willing. The Imperial Parliament alone can unlock the door with the assent of the other Australian States.
The "Herald" asks how the other States would signify their assent as the Constitution is sijent upon the point. The plural marriage was for better or for worse and no Court has jurisdiction to grant a divorce.
