DISASTROUS FIRE.

Pithead Ablaze at Pelawmain

Colliery.

DAMAGE £30,000.

(Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day.

One of the most disastrous pithead fires in the history of the northern coalfields caused £30,000 damage at Pelawtnain colliery, Kurrikurri, during the night. All the buildings and screens were domolished, but the power-house »nd engine rooms were saved. After a great fight by several brigades the fire fras prevented from extending to the pit. The flames leapt 60 feet above the mine buildings and the whole town and «_radius of two miles were illuminated. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. About 400 miners will be thrown idle.
