NO REDUCTION.
CHARGES FOR ELECTRICITY
(FYom Our Own Correspondent.)
WHAXGAREI, this day
The electrical committee reported to the Borough Council last night that in view of the actual and estimated fall in the year's revenue, it was unable to recommend f<ny reduction in charges. The chairman of the committee, Mr.
L. T. Pick mere, said that it was estimated that the consumption would be 138,720 units than last year. This meant a loss of £1370. It was forecasted in the annual estimates that there would be an increased sale of £902, so that the total discrepancy would be £2309. The sum of £1500 for a new line had been taken from the replacement fund instead of from ordinary revenue, but it was likely that the loss on the budgeted figures would still amount to £800. A reduction of |d per unit on all electric power would represent a further shrinkage of £2897, and on lighting alone to £805, so that'any lowering of the price was quite out of the question. The Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, associated himself with what had been said by Mr. Pick-mere. He said tho electrical committee had discussed the matter from every point of view for 2J hours.. I The committee's report was adopted.
