"ALL THESE COLONELS."

CONTROL OF CANTEEN FUNDS.

R.S.A. MEN DISSATISFIED

WHO BUILT THEM UP?

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day

"How can we' get rid of. all these colonels ?" was a question raised by a number of members at the quarterly meeting of the Christchurch R.S.A. when the constitution of the Canteen Funds Board was. under discission. It was .explained that a member of the board had practically a life tenure of office and that as far as the R.S.A, was concerned it could not effect a

change

Several speakers 'expressed the view in strong _ terms that it was not right that'the colonels, who had 'done very little towards building'up the.'funcLs in the first place, should, now'have control of the money.

One speaker told a story of an argument, he had. had with the board, regarding, an application for assistance, made on behalf of a man. The board took the view that because the man had been in the "klink"' a good deal and was nearly always drunk when at.the war he was.not worthy of assistance.

.."I.was aghast when they told me that," the speaker, continued, "and I promptly told them that.tkit was the very man who had most claim on tlie fund, because he had. helped eo much in building it up." -(Laughter;) ■.•'./,-
