The Henderson Town Board held its usual monthly meeting on Monday night, the chairman, Mr. A. W. Bussey presiding. The foreman reported that the footpaths on Third Avenue, the Old North Koad, from the school to the eteel bridge on the Great North Road, and from the concrete road to Thomas and Catherine Streets had been covered with shell. The whole of George Street, from Valley Road, had been scarified, rolled and top-dressed with metal chips, the formation had been widened, drained and metal waste been put on the footpaths. The South Road from the railway crossing to the boundary had been repaired, with metal and blinded with scoria. Five chains of the telephone cable on the Great North Road had been lowered to the permanent level, and another five chains were ready for lowering. The Swanson and Valley Road main highways had been graded and dressed with metal chips, and were now in very good condition. Members of the board commented very favourably upon the general condition of the district, and it was agreed that the foreman be complimented upon the excellent way in which he had done his work. The traffic inspector reported that 122 licenses for motor vehicles had been issued up to date. The by-laws committee recommended that in accordance with a request from the Auckland Master Plumbers' Association, the board adopt a by-law prohibiting the use of graphite paint on the roofs of buildings. This was agreed to. The town clerk for New Lynn forwarded a report to the effect that at a conference of local bodies in the western suburb* it had been decided that a petition be presented to the Government desiring that a new motor omnibus district be created and a new licensing authority be declared extending from the Whau Bridge in th« south to the northern boundary of the Waitemata County, to have control oi motor omnibus traffic operating in its area. This being in accordance with s previous decision of the board, the petition waj approved of. A letter was received from the District Highways Council notifying the board that as a result of further information acquired the council had decided that the new bridge over the Oratia Stream by tin Henderson School should be constructed on a curve of approximately 10 chains radius, in order to conform with the alignment of the present concrete highway In addition .the roadway between tin curbs should be 24ft, not 20 as in the original plan, footpaths would also b< provided. It was also considered advis able that the bridge should be lifted i little higher than in the previous proposa in order to give easement of gradient or the Auckland approach. On this accouni a new plan aud lay-out would be required A letter dealing with the same subject was received from Mr. R. Worley, engineei to the board, in which he stated that the cost of the new plan would not execeo £20. It was resolved to leave the mattet in the hands of the Highways Counci and the engineer.
