ACTIVITIES IN DOMINION. SOUP KITCHENS FOR THE NEEDY, In view of the prevailing distress throughout the country the -Salvation Army has opened soup kitchens in-the larger centres. In Dunedin the officers -Tire co-operating with the Education Department in providing soup for the children at the schools. Altogether about 70 gallons of soup a day are being distributed. Over 170 men and children are being given soup daily at the Wellington shelter, under the direction of Commandant Fantham. A room has now been secured where homeless men can come and rest. This will be an especial. boon to them during wet and cold weather. During the month of June 17,070 meals were supplied at the Christchurch men's home.
