MEW CARGO HOOKS.
m TO MINTMISE ACCIDENTS. INTERESTING COMPETITION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. Witli a view to minimising the number of accidents occurring on the waterfront through cargo slings falling off hooks the Marino Department some time ago invited suggestions from the public for a new type of hook. Nearly 200 persons entered for the competition, for which a. prize of £100 is being offered, and up to the present six of the entries, from which ii final selection will be made, have been singled out. Jt would be ha-d to conceive of a more varied selection of hookti than those received. Some of the designs arc said to be quite startling. Hooks of the design of the final six are being given to various vessels to let them work them under varying conditions around the New Zealand coast.
