SELF-RELIANCE.
CALL TO CITIZENSHIP. NEW DEFENCE SCHEME. TRIBUTE TO THE GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. "The Government has for a long time been doing too much for the people of this country. If anything of any kind is wanted the cry is go to the Government," said Mr. G. T. Weston, in addressing the meeting at which the Canterbury Regiment Association was formed last night. He added that the Government, in laying down the new military system, had in a way given the people a chance to help themselves. They must do more than ask the Government for everything. The new system might be a good thing for the citizens generally, for it might teach them to be more self-reliant.
