OPEN VERDICT.

MAORI FAMILY'S DEATH. BURNED INSIDE WHARE. FATHER STRANGE IN MANNER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) , . * . HAMILTON, this day. The inquest, on Rangi Matahaere and his five children, who were burned to death in a whare at Paparama Pa on Wednesday night, was resumed last night; The evidence of several native inhabitants of the pa went to show that Matahaere had been peculiar in his manner since his wife died 12 months ago. He was moody and sometimes refused to speak to other natives. They noticed nothing unusual about his conduct on the day of the tragedy, and did not know a fire had occurred until they were informed by the little girl who had escaped. A verdict was returned that all six victims were burned to death in the whai - e, but there was insufficient evidence to show how the whare caught fire.
