RELIEF IN MOUNT ROSKILL.

The statement in your issue of the 24tli inst. made 'by a member of the Mount Eoskill Road Board that the No. 5 scheme has cost the ratepayers of the district £2000 is distinctly wrong and misleading. The £2000 mentioned by the member includes payment of wages to the whole of the permanent staff, which would have been paid irrespective of the operation of scheme 5. The tools purchased are also an asset which should be taken into account accordingly. The improvements, "many of them being of a permanent nature," effected by the relief workers are also a distinct asset and should, not have been wilfully ignored by the member who made the statement.
