LOCAL BODIES.
NEWMARKET COUNCIL
The Newmarket Borough Council held its first meeting since the recent election last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, presiding. He extended a welcome to the new members of the council. Mr. C. H. K. Mountain, who headed the poll in the council election, was appointed deputyMayor.
Committees.—The following committees were appointed:—Legal and finance, Messrs. E. E. Newport (chairman), T. C. Latham, R. Philpott, T. F. Wade; general purposes, Messrs.. C. H. K. Mountain (■chairman). F. Appleton, R. T. Michaels, T. J. Watts: works. Messrs. T. J. Watts (chairman), W. J. JafTrey, R. T. Michaels, T. C. Latham. The Mayor is a member, ex officio, of each committee.
