COOKS AND STEWARDS.
NEW COURT AWARDS FILED. Three separate award 3 covering cooks and stewards in the employ of the Northern coastal shipping companies, the Northern Steamship Company and the Kaipara and Sellars-Allen shipping companies, have been filed by the Arbitration Court. In each case the new award is based on the provisions of the expired award, and only minor alterations are made. The terms of each is from May 1, 1931, to August 31, 1932. Vessels belonging to the Northern Steamship Company are classified into three grades, and there are slightly varying wage schedules for each grade. The wages range from £15 14/ a month for second stewards to £13 4/ for assistant stewards, and £& 5/ for stewardesses, and from £1S 9/ for chief cooks to £10 9/ for scullerymen. Chief cooks and stewards in the Kaipara and Sellars-Allen companies are to receive £15 4/ a month and stewardesses £8 10/. In the Northern coastal companies' award the rates vary from £18 4/ for cook-stewards to £12 4/ for assistant cooks or stewards.
